Currently, autumn leaves light up is happening at the garden of Entsuin Temple, Matsushima. Maple trees are lighten up in the dark of the night into various colours; green, orange, red and even white. Actually, this was my second time visiting this place. But there was something special about this year: new mini rose garden that is located just near the most attractive mirror-like pond, which perfectly reflects the image of maple tree. Apart from enjoying the beautiful and delightful view of colorfully illuminated maple trees, this place also creates romantic atmosphere in which we can leisurely walk through. Looking at old gravestones in a cave in darkness added more eerie effect to me.

Today I went to Matushima, Miyagi Prefecture! Now is the best season to enjoy autumn leaves in Matsushima. We enjoyed very beautiful autumn leaves at Entsuin Temple and Kanrantei. Matsushima is known for fresh oysters. Sushi is also delicious!

Matsushima is well known place for its fresh seafood, especially its regional delicacy, Matsushima Osyter. Grilled scallop (hotate), squid (ika), shrimp (ebi) oyster (kaki), whelk in spiral shell (tsubu-gai) and even eel (unagi) are sold fresh at the food stalls, restaurants or cafes throughout the seaside town of Matsushima bay. On my recent visit to Matsushima, I stopped by at one of the restaurants and enjoyed a set of seafood lunch. I had asari (small shells) cooked perfectly with miso soup and it tasted superb. So let’s visit Matsushima and enjoy the freshest and super delicious seafood.
For your information, there will be Mastushima Oyster Festival on the first Saturday and Sunday of February every year. You can enjoy this best local delicacy for free!
