Tokoroten

Have you ever heard of "Tokoroten"? Do you know what it is?
It is a dish that people enjoy eating on a hot day during summer here in Japan.
It's a type of jelly and people love the texture and the feeling of how it goes down the throat.
How should you eat it? Use chopsticks like you do when you eat ramen or udon.
The jelly noodle is a Japanese old fashioned food that's everyone's favorite!
Tokoroten is made from seaweeds, and it's mostly consist of water.
Jelly is extracted from seaweeds such as Tengusa by boiling and cooling it down.
It's jelly but has firm texture.
This tokoroten is from "Inokai" in Niigata.
There are a lot of products made with seaweed in Niigata as the prefecture is facing the Sea of Japan.
Depending on the region, flavouring vary; some region uses dashi soy sauce and the other eat it with honey.
I would recommend you to use Halal soy sauce if you're Muslim.
Hope you enjoy eating Tokoroten this summer!
