Matsushima is well known place for
its fresh seafood, especially its regional delicacy, Matsushima Osyter.
Grilled scallop (hotate), squid (ika), shrimp (ebi) oyster (kaki), whelk
in spiral shell (tsubu-gai) and even eel (unagi) are sold fresh at the
food stalls, restaurants or cafes throughout the seaside town of
Matsushima bay. On my recent visit to Matsushima, I stopped by at one of
the restaurants and enjoyed a set of seafood lunch. I had asari (small
shells) cooked perfectly with miso soup and it tasted superb. So let’s
visit Matsushima and enjoy the freshest and super delicious seafood.
For your information, there will be Mastushima Oyster Festival on the
first Saturday and Sunday of February every year. You can enjoy this
best local delicacy for free!
