Akiu Craft Park

Brothers and Sisters, If you want to spend a fun weekend with your family or friends, we recommend you to go to Akiu Craft Park. In this place, you can learn how to make Japanese traditional goods like chopstick, handkerchief or scarf dyeing and weaving, spin tops, and traditional Kokeshi dolls as well as Sendai Tansu (wooden chests).
When we visited this Tohoku craftsmen village, we tried to learn how to dye the handkerchief. Sensei (a teacher) was patiently taught us how to make beautiful patterns by folding the cloth and tying it with rubber band; after that we put it in the dark colored water. When we finished all the process, we were so amazed that simple yet elegant technique could make very beautiful patterns. It was very unforgettable experienced for us.

Located in 50 minutes from Sendai station, you can take the bus operated by Takeya Kotsu from the bust stop in front of Yamada Denki (Labi). It costs 770 yen for one-way trip. Please prepare this beforehand.
